Scotland's Giffnock Library is to receive a £450k refurbishment, East Renfrewshire Council has confirmed.

The Council will begin work later this year to transform the well-use facility.

As well as providing new, bookable meeting rooms for community groups and organisation, the new build will also offer:

* Improved computer facilities with a new learning suite and free wifi

* A children's area for reading and learning

* A new programme of activities for teenagers

* Better facilities, services and support for older people in the community

* Improved local access to council and partner services

* A centre for family and local history

* Performance and exhibition space

Convener of Community Services and Community Safety, Mary Montague, said: "These are exciting changes for Giffnock library.

"It will offer local residents a terrific facility that will have something for everyone in the community to enjoy. This is a significant investment by the council and will deliver the very best in library services."

The library will close in summer 2013 and reopen in early 2014.

A number of options for the temporary provision of library resources and services are currently being considered for local residents while the library is closed.
