Clackmannanshire Council has secured funding of £147,000 from Sport Scotland to go ahead with a Community Sports Hub in the area.

Community sports hubs are Sport Scotland's contribution to the Scottish Government's 2014 legacy plan.

Three Community Sports Hubs are to be set up in Clackmannanshire, with the first being in place at Lornshill Academy, by the autumn.

This will be followed by Alva Academy by June 2014 and then Alloa Academy by March 2015.

The Hubs are also designed to increase the number of people participating in sport within local communities across the county.

Councillor Ellen Forson, Education, Sport and Leisure Convener, welcomed the new initiative.

She said: "Community sport hubs aim to provide a welcome and safe place and more opportunities for people to take part in sport.

"The hubs will be a home where a range of local sports clubs can work together and improve access for local people and sports clubs at affordable prices."

The first hub is to be called the Lornshill Campus Community Sports Hub.
