A £25m 'urban village resort' is to be built on the outskirts of Aberdeen.

The build will be part of the Prime Four business park and will be Scotland's first De Vere Urban Village Resort.

The plans for the site at Kingswells were approved by members of Aberdeen City Council's Development Management sub-committee.

The resort will include a five-storey 148-bedroom hotel, business and conference facilities, restaurants, bars, and a luxury health spa and leisure club which includes a gym and swimming pool. The facilities will not be reserved for visitors to the four-star hotel.

Committee convener, Councillor Ramsay Milne, said: "This application is further evidence of Aberdeen’s continuing ability to attract investment and flourish despite the recession affecting business development and growth elsewhere in the UK, and is particularly notable as De Vere’s first business venture in Scotland.

"The hotel development will add a high-quality, attractive and well-designed building to a growing business park, where there will undoubtedly be a need for good facilities."

The site lies in phase two of the Prime Four development, about four miles west of Aberdeen.
