Construction work has started on a new Day Centre and Medical Practice in Gullane.

The purpose-built facility is located on the Hamilton Road and will provide a new home for the local GP practice, Construction Now has reported.

The building will feature locally accessed materials, including sandstone and timber frames, while the design incorporates energy efficient measures such as a living sedum roof and air source heating.

The £2.9m centre is being delivered by the hub South East Scotland Limited (hubCo) and built by Graham Construction. The hubCo has been established to assist its public sector partners to develop high quality community facilities on time and on budget.

The new community facilities are expected to support the delivery of co-located services and over the next ten years, projects worth over £300m are expected under the hub South East programme, which covers Edinburgh, Lothians and the Borders.

Provost Broun-Lindsay said: "As East Lothian continues to grow in population the council has a responsibility to ensure that local services continue to meet demand. The new Day Centre and Medical Practice will provide much needed purpose built accommodation to serve the growing needs of the local community."

The new practice is due to be completed by November.
