Aberdeenshire Council has said the Bervie Braes road in Stonehaven could be reopened to light traffic.

The road has been closed since 2010 after a series of landslides occurred after a period of heavy rainfall.

According to the BBC, officers looked at eight option amid concerns from local residents in the wake of landslides.

Next week, it is understood the Kincardine and Mearns area committee will be told that making the road one-way is workable. The road would also carry a weight restriction of three tonnes and a 20mph speed limit.

The project would cost around £300k and no funding is in place. However, if it is pursued, a request for finances would be made to the policy and resources committee.

Last month, an economic impact assessment commissioned by Stonehaven Town Partnership (STP) claimed the reopening of the road could be worth up to £9m a year to the local area.

Groups in the town have been campaigning for the road to be reopened and since the landslips £3m has been spent stabilisation the lower part of the braes.
