Fife Council's City of Dunfermline Area Committee has contributed £20k towards the installment of enhanced lighting for the city.
The move, which will cost £50k in total, will see enhanced lighting installed around a number of iconic buildings and land marks within the city centre.
The City Chambers, Glen Gates, Andrew Carnegie statue, Dunfermline Abbey and Carnegie Library are all set to benefit from the new initiative. As well as lighting up the city, it is hoped the new uplighters will showcase the historically significant features of the land marks as well as help improve the appearance of the city at night time.
Committee Chair Mike Rumney admitted he is looking forward to seeing the difference.
He said: "We've got a city to be proud of and this project will help show it off to best effect. As well as improving the appearance of the buildings, the lighting will hopefully encourage more people to spend more time in the centre of Dunfermline in the evenings and take advantage of everything that’s on offer there. Local businesses should also benefit from the project."
Work on the project will include the electrical testing of existing underground cabling, the installation of new equipment and state-of-the-art energy efficient floodlighting.
Work is expected to begin in the near future.
