Rothesay's Post Office in Guildford Square is the first to receive a shop-front repair in the town.

The work is being carried out by local building contractor George Hanson Ltd and comes after grant funding was made available from the Rothesay Townscape Heritage Initiative.

The repair work is expected to be completed in April 2013.

In September 2012, a grant of £37,057 was awarded to begin the work. The shop front was initially constructed off-site as investigative works were carried out at the site.

The post office, which is part of a Grade C listed building, will see the reinstatement of a traditional shop front as well as the retention of the original corner window.

Speaking of the construction work, Lead Councillor for Bute and Cowal, Robert MacIntyre, said: "The council is delighted to have been able to support the enhancement of this prominent sea front property.

"There is so much work involved in getting these projects on site and it is very rewarding to see this being finished off so beautifully."

Mr MacIntyre added that the Council expected to receive a further eight applications over the next few months, with work beginning on site during the summer.
