Long Calderwood Granted £5.8m Move

The green light has been given to replace Long Calderwood Primary School in East Kilbride.

The move, worth £5.8m, is the 22nd new primary school in the town, under the £812m Primary Schools Modernisation Programme.

The plan for the school was agreed by the council's planning committee this week, and work will get under way in the coming weeks on the tandem build project in the town's Bosworth Road.

For the school's 156 pupils, this means they will stay in their current building until work is completed on the new school which is to the rear of the existing site.

Vehicle access to the new school will be from a new road from Neville and a new pedestrian/pupil access will be created from Bosworth Road.

Councillor Hugh Dunsmuir, chair of the Planning Committee, said: "This development will provide a modern and attractive building which will serve pupils and staff well, whilst also enhancing facilities for the local community as a whole."
