Aberdeen-based company John Wood Group has recorded a 43% increase in pre-tax profits for 2012.

The firm, which design, builds and maintains oil and gas facilities around the world, said growth had been achieved across its three main divisions.

It said it made £239m with revenues jumping 20% to £4.5bn.

However Bob Keiller, chief executive of John Wood Group, said the company could be stronger if each division worked more closely together.

Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland, Mr Keiller said: "I think the group could be stronger if we work more collectively together and draw on the collective strengths of the business."

He added that profits had been boosted by the company's involvement in unconventional energy, such as the shale gas industry in North America. Keiller also said growth prospects for 2013 were positive across all areas of the business.

The John Wood Group employs about 43,000 people in more than 50 countries.
