Moray Council is asking the public to respond to its new draft local housing strategy.

The document covers the years 2013 to 2018 and details how the Council and its partners will move forward to improve the housing sector in Moray and help people find homes.

The strategy covers owner-occupied and private rented housing, council housing and social housing.

It includes proposals to address the shortage of affordable housing by building more homes in places where people want to live.

Moray Council says many of the new homes will be specially adapted for older people and those with disabilities.

Councillor Eric McGillivray, chairman of Moray Council’s communities committee whose portfolio of responsibilities includes housing, said: "As well as building new houses, the local housing strategy aims to tackle homelessness and improve the condition of Moray’s housing stock.

"Fuel poverty is a problem suffered by many in Moray and the strategy sets out a range of actions that will help householders with the cost of their fuel bills.

"What we want to know now is whether the people of Moray agreed with these plans and that is why we are carrying out a public consultation on the contents of the draft strategy."

The consultation is being launched on the Moray Council website.
