West Lothian Council Signs Greenspace Initiative

West Lothian Council has signed up to Europe’s largest greenspace initiative, in a bid to transform the environmental quality of the area.

The Central Scotland Green Network (CSGN) Local Authority Concordat is intended to deliver "a step change in environmental quality, woodland cover and recreational opportunities".

The CSGN Concordat was signed by John McGinty, Leader of West Lothian Council, West Lothian Council's Chief Executive Graham Hope and Keith Geddes, Chair of the CSGN Partnership Board.

Welcoming the CSGN Condorat, Leader of West Lothian Council John McGinty commented: "The agreement marks a significant step forward in bringing together the right expertise, resources and people, to realise an ambitious project which will help to make Central Scotland a more attractive and distinctive place to live, visit and do business."

West Lothian Council's Chief Executive Graham Hope added: "The signing of the Concordat also continues the long standing relationship the council has enjoyed with the Central Scotland Forest Trust as they both seek to deliver the Central Scotland Forest initiative and now a wider green network that benefits West Lothian residents, communities and businesses."

Keith Geddes, Chair of the CSGN Partnership Board, said: "In order to achieve the CSGN aims of delivering a high quality green network that will meet the Scottish government’s environmental, social and economic objectives, we need to share resources, best practice and new thinking.

"Our Local Authority Concordat represents a collective understanding that working in partnership will ensure policies and resources are aligned and will in turn achieve the optimum results for all parties involved. I hugely welcome the fact that West Lothian Council has come on board and we look forward to building on our relationship to create a lasting legacy for the future."
