The Higland Council is preparing for an £8m redevelopment of its offices at the Market Place site in Wick.

Councillors will be relocating their offices to temporary accommodation at Girnigoe in preparation for the closure of the Market Place building on Friday 18 January at 15:00.

80 staff will be involved in the move.

All business currently carried out by the Highland Council at Market Place will continue at Girnigoe Street from Monday 21 January.

Local contractor Gerry Henderson has carried out works valued at £40,000 to prepare the Girnigoe Street premises for their temporary use by the Council.

Morgan Sindall has been awarded the contract to to carry out the redevelopment of Market Place.

The old listed building on the site will be demolished, while the adjoining Stafford Place Buildings will be refurbished and restored and the listed façade retained to accommodate 140 Council staff.

The new building will be built on three floors to the front and two floors at the rear.

A separate contract is also being processed for the refurbishment of Wick Town Hall, including installation of a lift to improve disabled access.
