A North Lanarkshire Council house-building project has reached a landmark in its development, with the opening of new homes at Millerston.

The Coshneuk Road development includes 11 amenity bungalows, built on a former horticultural nursery area.

Ogilvie were awarded the contract for the scheme at a cost of £1.1m on behalf of the Council.

The first residents moved into their new homes earlier this year.

All the properties are energy efficient, accessible and designed to be easily adaptable for tenants with disabilities.

Provost of North Lanarkshire Jim Robertson officially opened the new area.

He remarked: "The completion of this development underlines our firm commitment to providing first-class housing as part of our new build programme.

"It is exciting to see the properties finished and the tenants enjoying life in their new surroundings."

The development is part of the North Lanarkshire Council’s £150m Building for the Future programme.

The programme has a target of 1,000 new homes for rent by 2020.

Convener of Housing and Social Work Services, Sam Love added: "This development is just one of a number currently being progressed across North Lanarkshire and delivers much-needed new homes for current and future residents in the area."
