Falkirk Pupils Get Lesson In House-Building

Kingdom Housing Association has been giving Falkirk’s school children a lesson in building a house.

Pupils from Westquarter Primary School have been visiting a live building site in the town’s Allison Crescent.

The housing group is currently building 23 new homes on the site, 13 of which are designated affordable housing.

Persimmon Homes is the main contractor for the contract.

The children helped Kingdom Housing Association design a handbook for the new Falkirk tenants and were paid a visit from the Ecology Centre.

The Allison Crescent project is valued at £3,170,822 and has received £1,896,136 subsidy from the Scottish Government and Falkirk Council.

Lorna Hart, depute head teacher at Westquarter Primary School, said: "The partnership with Kingdom Housing Association has been fantastic. The children have had opportunities to learn about the process of building a new house.

"They have visited the building site in the local area and taken part in workshops provided by Kingdom Housing.

"The partnership has been of huge benefit to our school and we look forward to continuing to work with Kingdom Housing Association on future projects."

Alan McGuckin, chief executive of Kingdom Housing Association, said: "Kingdom Housing Association is committed to promoting environmental awareness and creating effective links with schools.

"Pupils from Westquarter Primary School recently took part in various classroom activities, site visits and a design competition, all of which provided real and relevant contexts against which the young people could apply their learning.

"Not only did the pupils find these activities enjoyable but also the Kingdom staff."
