Kilwinning Town Centre Development Underway

Work has begun on a £520,000 refurbishment for homes and businesses in Kilwinning town centre.

North Ayrshire Council has announced the work is being carried out at flats and retail units at the town's Almswell Road and Main Street.

The Council is working with Irvine Bay Regeneration Company on the scheme.

CCG Scotland has been awarded the contract to undertake the work, expected to be completed by late April next year.

The development of the Western Gateway in Kilwinning was identified as a priority in the Irvine Bay Regeneration Company (IBRC) plan.

Work on the flats will include re-roofing and rendering and installing new doors and windows.

The retail units will benefit from new feature lighting, upgraded roller shutters and general improvements.

Tenants, residents and shopkeepers were invited to attend a 'meet the builder' event held at one of the retail units to put forward questions and thoughts on the development.

North Ayrshire Council's Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, Councillor Marie Burns, said: "There was a good response to the 'meet the builder' event and some really positive feedback from local people.

"Tenants, residents and shopkeepers were able to see samples of material being used and to discuss arrangements for during the building work.

"Staff from North Ayrshire Council's Housing Services were also on-hand to answer any questions.

"It's important that we work with the community for the benefit of tenants, residents and retailers.

"The goal for the Council and Irvine Bay is to regenerate and revitalise Kilwinning town centre.

"We are working towards this by supporting local businesses and improving the local environment."
