Dunfermline Chambers Reopens Following Revamp

The City Chambers in Dunfermline has reopened following a £1.2m refurbishment.

Fife’s historic landmark was closed in order for the 10-month facelift to be carried out.

The revamp included the addition of new facilities such as a local office, meeting and interview rooms, toilets and baby changing facilities.

Council staff will also now enjoy the bonus of refurbished office space.

External work is still ongoing and should be completed by April 2013.

Chair of the City of Dunfermline Area Committee Councillor Mike Rumney carried out the official opening ceremony.

Unveiling a special plaque to commemorate the occasion he commented: "It’s fantastic to see the difference this work has made to the City Chambers.

"Its location in the heart of the town, close to bus station and shops will make it easy for people to access our full range of services from one place.

"As well as modernising the interior of the building we’ve taken the opportunity to carry out some restoration work to the fabric of the Grade A listed building. This is being funded by a grant from the Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) and is one of the actions on the council’s plan to improve and revitalise the Dunfermline area.

"It’s vitally important that we continue to invest in our historic buildings – this gives this unique facility a new lease of life for new generations of Fifers to enjoy."
