The A Proctor Group has announced it will be working on a new European-wide project to cut carbon emissions from properties in historic urban districts.

The Energy Efficiency for EU Historic Districts’ Sustainability project (EFFESUS) works to upgrade traditional building fabrics to modern standards.

The European Commission has already committed about €5m to the project, which will help member states meet energy consumption targets.

The aim of EFFESUS is to make improvements to energy efficiency while conserving and promoting the cultural, historic, urban and architectural values of historic cities on the Continent.

This is intended to reduce the environmental impact of Europe’s building heritage.

The A Proctor group is one of 23 partners taking part in the scheme, which stretches across 13 countries.

It will be working especially in work package 4 which is investigating the development of conservation compatible new materials for envelope retrofitting.

A Proctor is leading work package 4.2 to develop advanced aerogel as blown-in insulation behind lath and plaster walls.

It will be working with three companies from Spain, Portugal and France to develop the insulation.

A Proctor Group will also be involved in case studies to test solutions and to educate and disseminate regarding the results.
