The Shetland Islands Council has announced a special ceremony this Saturday to usher in a new pier and breakwater.
The new facility at Hamarsness will be formally opened in Fetlar with a celebration in the local community.
Construction of the pier and breakwater began as former Shetland Island Councillor Josie Simpson cut the turf in January of last year. Now that it is finished, Ms Simpson will be returning to officially open the new development at 13:00.
The new facility is intended to provide shelter for the pier and slipway and for the existing ferry terminal.
The Shetland Islands Council hopes that by providing essential infrastructure, the development will "attract investment, promote business and sustain economic growth within the island."
It also hopes the development will encourage tourism by providing a safe landing point for visiting yachts and cruise ship passengers.
Alistair Cooper, Chairman of the SIC’s Development Committee: "I’m very pleased to see this long awaited project complete – it will prove a great asset for the community. Increased confidence in Fetlar is already evident."
