Midlothian Council has announced the granting of permission for 60 new homes at Mayfield.
The contract has been awarded to Persimmon to build the new homes.
The Council has approved the developer’s plans to build 35 detached houses, 15 semi-detached houses and 10 terraced affordable houses.
The development will be situated on a four-hectare site known locally as Hilltop.
All homes will be two-storey properties, 29 or which will be three-bedroom and 31 of which will be four-bedroom.
The Council has said access to the new development will be off Mansfield Road.
The plans will also include an equipped children’s play area and an open area of landscaped recreational space.
Councillor Owen Thompson, cabinet member for Planning and Development said, "The site at Hilltop is already allocated in the council's Midlothian Local Plan which was adopted following extensive public consultation and engagement.
"The new housing will assist in meeting the steady demand for new homes in Midlothian."
