Dundee Schools Project Discussed

A new schools project could be given the green light by Dundee City Council.

The £40m development will be put forward in a report to the education and policy committees on November 26.

Plans for the new primary and nursery schools in the Coldside, Menzieshill and Strathmartine areas will be outlined, along with a replacement for Baldragon Academy.

Education convener Councillor Stewart Hunter said: "These are exciting developments in our proposals for new schools in the city. We have already been speaking to people in their communities about these plans and I am keen that we can improve educational facilities for the future.

"This would help in the regeneration of these areas and provide state of the art facilities to meet the opportunities and challenges that our pupils will face in the years to come.

"I was pleased to hear the recent announcement of Scottish Futures Trust funding for our ambitious plans for Baldragon Academy. I am also delighted that the council has been able to ensure that £8m is committed to the project for a new Sidlaw View primary School and Jessie Porter nursery."

Policy and resources convener Councillor Ken Guild said: "We are undertaking a major building programme across the city with investment of £420m already planned.

"Schools are an important component of our commitment to improve our communities and help regenerate the city."

The committees will be asked to approve proposals for the development as well as to back a move to formal consultation.
