Rail-Line Communities Offered Drop-In Sessions

Drop-in sessions are being organised for communities concerned about the proposed rail line in Scotland.

Communities from the Borders to Edinburgh are being offered the chance to learn more about the scheme and raise any concerns.

Today sees the beginning of a string of sessions, starting off in Stow. This marks the first of ten events organised by Network Rail to invite questions from residents about the project.

Network Rail was handed responsibility for delivering a rail route from the Borders to Edinburgh earlier this month.

Construction is expected to start early 2013 and is estimated to be completed in summer 2015.

Advanced works are already under way on the line between Edinburgh and Tweedbank.

It is thought residents living along the proposed route will begin to see equipment and increased traffic early in the new year.

The drop-in sessions are being held to allow residents to view the plans and speak to members of the project team.

The full programme is:

19 November - Stow Town Hall

20 November - Old Gala House, Galashiels

21 November - MacFie Hall, Heriot

26 November - Dalkeith Arts Centre

27 November - Danderhall Community Centre

29 November - Langlee Community Centre, Galashiels

4 December - Tweedbank Community Centre

5 December - Gorebridge Leisure Centre

6 December - Edinburgh College, Dalkeith

10 December - Newtongrange Library
