£5.4m North Ayshire Housing Close To Construction

Construction is almost underway to begin a £5.4m council housing development in North Ayrshire.

The Redstone Avenue area of Kilwinning will see 46 new homes built in the development.

The project is still at its design stage and a further consultation is due next month.

The project was discussed by councillors at a cabinet meeting earlier this month. Part of the design will include creating pathways and trails to utilise the standing ecological features.

It will also include the creation of access for wheelchair users.

Building is expected to get underway in spring 2013 and take about 12 months to complete.

The council will ensure, according to government guidelines, that apprentices are taken on by the contractor.

North Ayrshire Council cabinet member for health and social care, councillor Anthea Dickson said: "The Redstone Avenue development in Kilwinning is the next step in our commitment to building new housing for people in North Ayrshire.

"These will be modern homes that will meet the needs of families in the community.

"The council has ambitious plans to build 500 homes over ten years and this major development will help to move us towards that target."

She added: "Providing adapted homes to meet the needs of residents helps people to live full and independent lives.

"The Redstone Avenue development will provide quality homes and I look forward to seeing it progress."
