Glasgow Housing Wins Award

A social housing development in Glasgow’s east end has been announced the winner of a top award, despite having been opened just two months ago.

Thenue Housing won the title of Social Housing Development of the Year in the Herald Property Awards for Scotland 2012.

The £11m pound development on London Road was officially opened two months ago.

Thenue Chief Executive, Charlie Turner said: "What is so remarkable is that this Award has been won so soon after the development was opened. It really was a team effort in creating these much needed new homes for the east end.

"I want to pay tribute to everyone who was involved in the project from the moment the plans were drawn up to the day it opened its doors. We are delighted with this success but the real prize is that we have created new homes in a community where people want to live."

The 37-home development also contains Thenue’s new offices.

Award judges paid tribute to Thenue’s regeneration of those places where it builds properties. They said: "The development is a shining example of the fact that regeneration makes a huge difference to residents with a good mix of accommodation types."

Thenue said it was heartened by the fact that the judges highlighted the regeneration work which the Association carries out.

Mr Turner remarked: "We are particularly pleased that the judges, in their deliberations, highlighted the regeneration work which we do. We consider this to be a vital aspect of our activities and we are strongly committed not just to delivering good housing but to helping the communities we serve."

The Rt Hon Sadie Docherty, Lord Provost of Glasgow opened the properties in early August.
