Former pupil Alex Neil MSP joined new pupils of Patna and St Xavier’s to celebrate its reopening following a £10m upgrade.

The new state-of-the-art building includes two primary schools, a nursery and a supported learning centre, as well as a community centre, library and local office.

The nursery, playgrounds, dining hall, gym hall, science room, music and drama room, staff room, parents’ room and IT suite are shared by children and teachers of both schools. The only separate facilities are the classrooms.

Thanking Alex Neil MSP for officially opening the campus, Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of East Ayrshire Council, said: “Alex is a Patna boy and his roots are in the Doon Valley. He always speaks very fondly of this community, in which he grew up and he is a true friend of East Ayrshire”.

Councillor Reid added: “Bringing together two important schools serving the community on a shared campus is a significant event in the life of education in East Ayrshire and this part of the world.

“Moreover, we have provided a unique, modern community asset which everyone can be proud of and which will act as a magnet for new population and a focus for regeneration in the Doon Valley”.
