Aberdeenshire Council will close the A944 at Forbestown, Bellabeg, Strathdon on Monday, September 3, to carry out remedial works to the landslip which is currently restricting the road to single file traffic under the control of traffic lights.

Aberdeenshire Council has been monitoring the site several times a day further to a landslip which occurred in April on the A944 at Bellabeg.

The plan for remedial works will involve reconstructing the collapsed embankment using a "reinforced earth" technique that consists of placing earth fill wrapped in layers of geo-textile.

This technique will enhance the long-term stability of the embankment while allowing it to be constructed with a steeper side slope than normal, with the added benefit of reconstruction without diversion of the River Don or realignment of the road.

The work will take approximately eight weeks as a maximum, with all efforts being made to ensure the repairs are carried out in the shortest possible timescale.

Three diversion routes have been put in place to ensure that vehicles are directed onto the most appropriate road for their size and weight.

The authority consulted widely to identify a start date which will have the least overall disruption to life and businesses in Strathdon and Speyside.
