'Granite City' Quarry To Be Pumped For Heritage Centre

A quarry near Aberdeen is to be pumped in preparation for a heritage centre to be built.

Owners Hugh Black and Sandy Whyte have installed pumping equipment at the Rubislaw Quarry, to be switched on later this week.

It will be the first time water is pumped out of the 450ft deep hole since it stopped operating as a quarry some decades ago.

The quarry is credited with giving Aberdeen its name of Granite City.
