A children's home in Irvine has been converted into homes for people with particular needs.

Earlier this year, North Ayrshire Council agreed to a plan to transform the children's home at Seaton Terrace, in the Vineburgh area of Irvine, into two amenity homes and one suitable for a wheelchair user.

Councillor Anthea Dickson, spokesperson for Health and Social Care, officially handed over keys and a bouquet of flowers to new tenants, Peter and Ann Logie.

The fully wheelchair accessible property was designed following close consultation with the prospective tenant to ensure all their needs were met. The remaining two amenity homes have level access, wet floor shower and accessible sockets.

Councillor Dickson said: "One of the main goals of the Council is to make it viable for people to maintain their independence and live in their own homes for as long as possible.

"Supporting people is vital, as is making sure that their homes are suitably equipped to enable them to live comfortably and safely. This project is an excellent example of this and it is heartening to see Council staff working so closely with tenants to ensure that their needs are being met."
