VISITORS to Whitelee wind farm outside Glasgow can have a whole new outlook on renewable energy after a new viewing point was created, the Glasgow Evening Times has reported.

Ayrshire-based tradesman Niall Baird built a dry stone cairn and perimeter wall from local materials for the Blackwood Hill viewing station, a mile and a half from the wind farm's visitor centre in East Renfrewshire.

Commissioned especially for the station, a bronze toposcope – a points-of-interest marker – forms the centrepiece of the viewing point.

Councillor Vincent Waters, East Renfrewshire Council's environmental convener, believes the new facility offers spectacular views.

He said: "The viewpoint has been created at the highest point of the wind farm and has views which stretch almost 100 miles in every direction.

"You can see Northern Ireland in one direction, you can see well into the Highlands in another and, elsewhere, the Pentlands.

"It is easily the most stunning part of what is a fantastic location in the wind farm."

Construction is ongoing at the Whitelee wind farm, which is part of the Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions.
