An Aberdeenshire firm rose to the challenge of building the timber frame for a six storey hotel at a busy main road junction.

Deeside Timberframe were brought in by Russells Construction, who they had worked for before, for the tricky six-week race against time.

The Travelodge hotel in Loughborough was situated on a corner plot between a junction and a canal, and access to the site was restricted by these and an existing student accommodation building.

Speed of building was "one of, if not the most critical aspects of this challenging project", a company spokesperson said.

The sequence of construction had to be carefully thought out and the next door building had to be carefully protected during the construction phase.

Deeside completed the job in six weeks, using an 80t self-erecting tower crane.

Mike Pickles of Russells Construction said: "We were delighted to appoint Deeside on this project as we benefited greatly from having them on board when we completed a residential project in Radcliffe Park, Salford. Their approach is innovative and their products are the best on the market."
