Waste Conference To 'Spark Imaginations'

A two-day conference this October will explore waste management and resources in an attempt to "spark people's imagination" about the idea of 'zero waste'.

Organised jointly between charity Zero Waste Scotland and the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, the event will build on the existing Scottish Waste and Resources Conference.

Aimed at business and public sector leaders, environmental organisations and the resource management industry, it will feature welcome addresses from Richard Lochhead MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and Environment and Fergus Ewing, Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism.

The line-up will bring together key policy and industry experts and speakers from major business sectors.

Zero Waste Scotland Director Iain Gulland said organisers hoped to reach out to businesses in particular.

He said: "Our aim is for a major event that reflects the scale of Scotland's ambition on this agenda. The resources industry can be as important to Scotland’s low carbon future as the renewables sector but we need to spark people's imagination and tell inspiring stories of what can be achieved through zero waste."

Duncan Simpson, Chair of CIWM Scotland Centre, added: "Scotland is pushing the boundaries on waste and this new partnership event will provide an invaluable forum for waste and resource management professionals to discuss and shape the future, share knowledge and best practice, and ensure that we can deliver the vision of a more resource efficient Scotland."

The conference is accredited by CIWM.
