The Scottish Government has given a £30m contract to a facilities management company it has already been using for seven years.

The stamp of approval went to MITIE, the strategic outsourcing and energy services company.

It has secured an expanded contract to provide Integrated Facilities Management services to the Scottish Government and its collaborative partners.

The contract was awarded under the Government Procurement Service FM framework agreement and MITIE overcame strong competition from other eligible suppliers.

The five-year contract, which commences on 1 October, covers more than 80 buildings across Scotland, including specialist scientific facilities located in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Perthshire as well as the Student Awards Agency for Scotland, Science and Advice for Scottish Agriculture, Accountant in Bankruptcy and the Scottish Fire Services College.

MITIE is committing to self-delivering over 95% of the services. These include M&E maintenance, project delivery, energy management, cleaning and a range of soft services.

The partnership provides a number of MITIE's collaborative partners the opportunity to benefit from the economies of scale that a procurement contract of this size will deliver.

A spokesman for MITIE said: "Adopting an Integrated FM model builds on the success of the existing contract and will deliver greater efficiencies through a joined up approach. The effective monitoring of energy and the identification of energy efficiency projects will support the Scottish Government's commitment to further reducing their carbon footprint."

MITIE, the Scottish Government and the collaborative partners will work as a genuine partnership to develop, implement and enhance the overarching property strategy.
