An Aberdeenshire school is to be built by infrastructure giant Lend Lease at a cost of £23.4m.
The contractor beat Farrans, Robertson and Morrison to the job of building a new school for Mearns Academy in Laurencekirk.
Councillors approved the project costs and awarded the contract to Lend Lease at a meeting of the policy and resources committee.
Building work is due to start next month and Lend Lease plans to award 75% of the building work to contractors within a 30-mile radius of Laurencekirk.
The new school will feature a four-court games hall, a fitness suite and sports pitches.
Councillors also approved plans for £11.7m of extensions and alterations to Kemnay Academy, and plans for a £10.4m new primary school at Kintore.
