A call has gone out for contractors to dredge and build a deepwater quay off the Shetland Islands.
The facility at Dales Voe, north of Lerwick, will form part of a £50m decommissioning facility for oil rigs, and the selected tender is expected to find it worth up to £35m.
It involves dredging and constructing a new quay to a depth of 24 metres and creating a yard for dismantling offshore platforms.
The deepwater dredging works consist of the removal of approximately 201,000 cubic metres of which 90,000 cubic metres is in a deepwater area, with 111,000 cubic metres dredging soft for reclamation/fill. It is likely that some combination of back-hoe and trailer-suction dredging will be used for the bulk of the work. Approximately 30,000 square metres of quay area will be created with associated infrastructure works.
Project manager for the scheme is Doig+Smith.
