Scottish Company Celebrates Apprentice Week With Awards Scheme

Scottish Apprentice Week will be marked at a leading construction firm with an internal awards ceremony this Friday.

A spokesman for City Building said the awards would "recognise the important contribution" made by its apprentices.

The "Apprentice Awards" will be held at Queenslie Training Centre, a training base for City Building’s apprentices, which number more than 450 each year.

A recent recipient of the Queen’s Award for Sustainable Development, City Building trains apprentices in construction skills and is training Scotland's first generation of "renewables" apprentices with specific qualifications in micro-renewables.

The ceremony will see 21 accolades given out, including awards from the Unite Trade Union for most improved apprentice and the Ucatt Trade Union for best attendance.

Presenting the awards will be one of the first official duties of the company's new chairman, Paul Carey.

Cllr Carey said: "In the current economic climate it is vital that apprentices continue to learn their trade and work towards their goals. City Building has many talented and dedicated apprentices, and it gives me great pleasure to help recognise their commitment."

City Building managing director, John Foley, pointed out that City Building have an "impressive" apprenticeship training completion rate of 95%.

He said: "This is due to our award-winning training and wrap-around support. These awards will further demonstrate the positive effect which Modern Apprenticeships can have in helping young people build their careers."
