Top Designer Opens The Housing Innovation

Hundreds of Scottish housing and construction professionals are expected to visit a groundbreaking £3.3 million Housing Innovation Showcase which was opened in Fife by the leading designer Wayne Hemingway.

The Dunfermline site boasts 27 new homes constructed by 10 different partnerships using modern sustainable methods of construction and the results could change the face of affordable housing in Scotland.

The project was launched by Kingdom Housing Association in conjunction with Fife Council, Fife Construction Forum and Green Business Fife.

Alan McGuckin, Chief Executive with Kingdom said: "The project is attracting lots of interest from Housing Associations, Local Authorities and others involved in the provision of affordable housing, with over 450 people pre-registered to visit the Showcase. We are delighted that Wayne Hemingway has demonstrated his support for the project and has agreed to launch the Showcase Innovation."

Mr Hemingway , who co-founded the Red or Dead fashion label, was shown around the site at Dunlin Drive and met a range of partners, suppliers and invited guests.

He now specialises in designing affordable housing and chairs Building for Life, a national body which promotes well-designed homes and neighbourhoods.

The homes, which have been built by ten different partners, will be on show to members of the public until May 31. Those wishing to visit are encouraged to pre-register. There will also be a special family day at the site on May 19th.
