Invitation To Tender For Mountain Bike Project

The invitation to tender for the £350,000 contract to finalise the design and construction of two new mountain bike trails on the Glenlivet estate in Moray, Scotland, has been issued.

With a closing date of 27 April 2012, it is hoped that a suitable contractor with experience of designing and building mountain bike trails will be appointed by May 2012 with work commencing to finalise the micro trail design as soon as possible.

The £500,000 project, led by The Crown Estate, includes the development of a mountain bike centre and two new mountain bike trails in the Carn Daimh Forest, near Tomintoul.

The new trails will be cross-country bike trails enhanced by the wilderness and stunning views of the area. They will be constructed predominately within the commercial forest area and will consist of two routes (10 km and 19 km) using a combination of existing forest tracks and a newly built single track.

Along with the trails, a small visitor centre with space for a café, information area, toilets and car parking will also be developed. It is hoped that the centre and trails will be completed and open for business by spring 2013.

Funding for the project is being provided by The Crown Estate, the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Cairngorms National Park Authority and Moray Council.
