The multi-million pound Balmedie –Tipperty scheme took a significant step forward this week with the publication of made orders.
This latest development enables this scheme which will complete the dual carriageway between Aberdeen and Ellon, to be brought up to the same level of readiness as the AWPR.
The project will be procured alongside the AWPR. Combining these projects into one contract will provide an opportunity to deliver best value for the public purse.
Transport Minister Keith Brown said: "The Scottish Government is committed to providing an efficient transport system throughout the country, including in the north east.
"On completion, the Balmedie - Tipperty dualling scheme will deliver improved safety, better connections and more reliable journey times for anyone using this section of the A90 north of Aberdeen.
"By combining the Balmedie -Tipperty dualling scheme in a combined Non-Profit Distributing (NPD) model contract alongside the AWPR we are ensuring the opportunity to deliver better value for the public purse."
The A90 is an important strategic route that carries traffic north of Aberdeen up to Fraserburgh. Progress is already being made by procuring advance ground investigation works to bring the scheme up to the same level of readiness as the AWPR. This approach has been discussed and agreed with our colleagues at Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Councils.
