The footbridge from Clarkston Toll to the station car park is set for a refurbishment.
It links the car park, Clarkston Hall and the library to the popular shopping district in Clarkston, the train station and Clarkston Toll will be closed for approximately five weeks while the work takes place.
Access will still be available for some of this time during the five week refurbishment programme but a complete closure will be required at some point during the work.
The alternative route will be put in place across the railway bridge at Clarkston Road and down steps to the car park.
The council's roads service will also put in place diversion signs 'bridge closed' signs locally to let pedestrians know which route to take while the essential refurbishment work takes place.
In the past year East Renfrewshire Council has carried out major resurfacing work at Clarkston Toll and Eastwoodmains Road in Clarkston.
Last February the council decided to add an extra £1.75m to the council's roads budget of £5.9m after two harsh winters and an increase in pot holes across the area.
