The Highlands will benefit from a cash injection of over £12 million for two major road projects as a part of a wider package of transport investment for Scotland.

Transport Minister Keith Brown confirmed funding for design work on the dualling of the A9 between Perth and Inverness and upgrade the A82.

The announcement is part of an £72 million package of new transport spending throughout Scotland.

Mr Brown said: "This allocation of budget funding will see extra investment of nearly £72 million in our transport infrastructure right across Scotland.

"We recognise the enormous role that Scotland’s strategic road network plays in improving journey times, relieving congestion and making our roads even safer for our communities and businesses.

"That is why we are allocating over £12 million to two key schemes in the Highlands.

"An investment of £10.2 million will allow us to build on the work already done on the A9 between Luncarty and Tay Crossing, enabling further development work to be progressed for other sections of this vital strategic road."
