The City of Dunfermline Area Committee has given the green light on a £1.2 million refurbishment planning application for the City Chambers.

Work on the Grade ‘A’ listed building can now commence next month and will include new toilets and baby changing facilities, repair work to the masonry walls and stonework features as well as making the building more energy efficient.

Approval at yesterday’s meeting means that the City Chambers in Dunfermline will close its doors to the public on Friday 3 February to allow for the major refurbishment project to begin. The new facility will re-open in October and offer a wider range of services, including the Town Centre Local Office that is currently on Walmer Drive.

Whilst the building is closed, customers can access services from alternative locations. Registration services will be available from New City House for the registration of all births, deaths and marriages. Customers should call 08451 55 00 77 to make an appointment.
