170 tenants and residents came together for North Lanarkshire's annual tenants' conference - the highest number of participants to date.

The conference, titled New Horizons, featured a range of workshops, information sessions and housing news. Among the key issues discussed were changes to the welfare system, the repairs service and the importance of gas maintenance, and the development of the new tenant participation strategy 2012/2015.

Participants also had a chance to view our new DVD, New Horizons, featuring local tenant and resident groups and the new build programme Building for the Future.

"Year on year our conference provides an excellent opportunity for tenants, residents and local tenant groups to meet and discuss key housing issues," explained Councillor McCulloch, Convener of Housing and Social Work Services.

"It is important that we listen to the views of tenants and residents and use their feedback to further improve our housing services. The conference gives us an excellent opportunity to do this and I would like to thank all those who took the time to take part and help shape local services and facilities.

Comments from those people who attended the conference was positive, with 97% people stating the conference was good or very good and 99% wanting to attend more events like this one. When asked to identify the top priority for investment, delegates chose building new council houses followed by investing in tenants' homes.
