A report detailing a total investment of £3.3 million on improvements to Dalkeith High Street has been approved by Midlothian Council.

This is the combined investment from the Dalkeith High Street Improvements project and the Dalkeith Heritage Townscape Initiative (THI) and Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS).

The Dalkeith high street improvement work was completed earlier this year – with an additional project to re-pave Jarnac Court scheduled to be carried out in the new year.

The townscape heritage initiative is now in the third of a five year programme of refurbishment and renovations to historic buildings in Dalkeith town centre. It is due to complete in July 2014

Public realm works, education and training schemes, owners’ contributions and in-kind contributions in the townscape heritage and conservation area regeneration scheme add up to £2.5 million, which – combined with a further £800,000 improvements in the town centre regeneration work – brings total investment in Dalkeith high street to £3.3 million.

Welcoming today’s report, Councillor Russell Imrie, Cabinet Member for Strategic Services at Midlothian Council, said: "This is a major investment which is aimed at both economically revitalising and regenerating Dalkeith town centre, while also repairing and restoring our architectural heritage."
