New Appointment For Sanctuary Cumbernauld

Cumbernauld’s largest housing association has a new chair and director.

Fran Jones and Gordon Laurie are now in charge of Sanctuary Cumbernauld’s governance and management respectively.

Fran replaced the respected Alex Clark as chair at the Association’s annual general meeting. Alex was required to step down after serving the maximum five years in the role, but remains a Board member.

Housing officer Fran – who was born in Cumbernauld and lives in the town – has already served three years on the Board, including a year as vice-chair. She is delighted to have the chance to make a difference.

Fran, 37, said: "I love Cumbernauld and, like everyone else, want to see the town thrive.

"I’m proud to see our progress at Fleming Road and Beechwood Court, plus our plans for the high-rises and Kildrum. Sanctuary Cumbernauld is helping to regenerate the town by working with North Lanarkshire Council and the Scottish Government. Together, we’re improving people’s lives and I expect that to continue.

"Being on the Board has given me the chance to make a difference. It’s a privilege to get an opportunity to improve a town I care about."

Sanctuary Scotland director Gordon had Cumbernauld added to his remit following the promotion of Peter Martin to Sanctuary Group’s director of development.

Although new to the role, Gordon had worked closely with Sanctuary Cumbernauld since the Association joined Sanctuary in October 2009. The economics graduate believes a closer working relationship between Sanctuary Cumbernauld and Sanctuary Scotland will help both Associations’ residents.

Gordon said: "This logical step will benefit our tenants and factored owners.

"Sharing expertise makes sense and any efficiency savings will be used to restrict future rent rises or improve services to tenants of both organisations.

"Sanctuary Cumbernauld is well placed thanks to Peter’s work and we wish him well in his new post."
