There will be a further delay in the handover of the new Keith Primary School.

Moray Council was informed yesterday by the company financing the project, IPP (Moray Schools)Ltd, that tests on the building are still being carried out. In addition, main contractor Stewart Milne Group has not yet completed all the required work for the building to be considered suitable for occupation.

This latest delay means that pupils - who were due to move in on December 7 - will have to remain in their existing school building for the time being. No date has yet been provided by the company as to when the new school will be ready.

The Moray Council is working closely with IPP and Stewart Milne Group to properly complete the school and to open the school to pupils as soon as reasonably possible. One of the tests yet to be carried out successfully is an air-tight test, where the building is pressurised from within to test seals, etc. The building must be able to be airtight to allow ventilation and heating systems to operate efficiently as planned.
