TAYplan Strategic Plan Submitted

A development plan covering four council areas and the next 20 years has taken a step closer to being adopted.

TAYplan's proposed strategic development plan has been submitted to Scottish Government ministers for approval.

Cllr John Beare, TAYplan convener said: "I am delighted that the hard work and efforts of a great number of people has brought the plan to the stage of submission to ministers.

"They will now independently consider the issues arising from the representations made by local people, developers and other interested parties on the proposed plan."

The Scottish Government's Directorate for Planning and Environmental Appeals will, during their examination, focus on the issues raised during the consultation process rather than individual representations.

TAYplan Joint Committee recently concluded that it wished to make no modifications to the Proposed Strategic Development Plan and agreed to submit it to the Scottish Government.

Set up in 2008, TAYplan, the Strategic Development Planning Authority, is creating a strategy for major building work in Dundee, Angus, Perth and Kinross and North/East Fife. Its joint committee is made up of three councillors from the four constituent local authorities.

The strategy, which will replace existing council structure plans when it is approved by Scottish Ministers, will set out a framework for growth in the Dundee city region.

It focuses on sustainable economic growth, shaping better quality places, quality of life, climate change and consumption of resources.

TAYplan's vision is that by 2032 the region will be sustainable, more attractive, competitive and vibrant without creating an unacceptable burden on our planet. The quality of life will make it a place of first choice where more people choose to live, work and visit, and where businesses choose to invest and create jobs.
