East Ayrshire Council’s ambitious Council house building programme has been expanded thanks to funding received from the Scottish Government.
The funding of £300,000 will allow the Council to build ten new affordable houses, specifically designed mainly for elderly and ambulant disabled people, at Grassyards Road in Kilmarnock. Two of the homes will be designed and built especially for wheelchair users.
Councillor Jim Buchanan, Spokesperson for Delivering Community Regeneration said: “Atrium Initiatives, in conjunction with McTaggart Construction, will be building the homes on behalf of the Council and it is hoped that the project will be on site in March 2012 with the build completing in January 2013.
“I have visited tenants at the new homes built during phases 1, 2, and 3 of the building programme and I have been genuinely touched by the positive effect these homes have had on their lives. The homes are carefully designed with our tenants needs in mind and fill an important gap in the housing market locally. The Council house building programme also keeps the local building industry buoyant during this difficult economic time.”
