Clyde Windows & Construction are preparing for another busy winter after the number of insurance claims for snow damaged conservatories increased significantly year on year.
The firm faced unprecedented demand working on behalf of property owners and their insurers.
Dax Duckett, the firm’s insurance surveyor, said: "In the previous two winters the extreme temperatures and heavy snowfalls have damaged conservatories in so many different ways.
"This ranged from total conservatory roof collapse from the weight of snow trapped on a conservatory roof to gutters being ripped from the damaged conservatory roof.
"Single or multiple glazing panels fell in under the massive weight of the snow - which increases daily with temperature fluctuations - this causes major stress on the roof.
"We normally find that roofs with lowered pitches or built cheaply with poor quality materials are the most susceptible to snow or ice damage."
Fortunately the contracts the company carry with main insurers allow them to provide a quality survey and repair.
They also offer a replacement service depending upon what the insurers decide or agree with their policyholders.
All of their tradesmen are required to have background checks carried out, providing a level of security for vulnerable clients.
"We work in pensioners homes fairly often too," he continued. "This is important to the insurers as any work that they approve and pay for usually has to exceed the current guarantee the homeowner already has. They need to be satisfied that they are getting as high a quality product as possible for their money."
