Lovell Wins Energy Efficiency Improvements Contract

South Lanarkshire Council has selected affordable housing specialists Lovell as the sole contractor for a range of energy efficiency refurbishment works at Greenhill Court, Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, which commenced on October 24th.

Lovell has sourced energy efficiency funding for the external fabric upgrade, energy efficiency measures and heating replacement at Greenhill Court from the Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP).

CESP aims to reduce carbon emissions and alleviate fuel poverty in areas of low income and high deprivation through the development of community based partnerships. The initiative aims to deliver around £350 million of energy efficiency packages between autumn 2009 and December 2012.

Greenhill Court is an existing development consisting of five blocks of one and two bedroom tenement flats situated over seven floors, which account for a total of 177 properties. Lovell will focus on upgrades to the external wall, roof, lighting, security, ventilation and heating systems, with the project expected to complete in January 2013.

Alan Taylor, regional director at Lovell, said: "This latest contract win shows that Lovell is continuing to reinforce its position as a market leader, with a proven reputation for delivering successful energy efficiency projects in the affordable housing sector. The project is expected to take just over a year, during which time the improvements to the existing flats will have a significant impact on tenants’ fuel bills while also reducing carbon emissions.”

Ian Douglas, project services manager at South Lanarkshire Council, added: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Lovell on the Greenhill Court project. Energy efficiency is a key priority for South Lanarkshire Council and the improvements at Greenhill Court will have significant benefits for its tenants, who will remain in residence during the project.”
