Plans for a new development, including 16 houses, a childcare centre and seven commercial units at Clachan, near Cairndow, have been delayed – despite having a full hearing.

Ardkinglas Estate submitted the application, the plans of which have been in development for several years now, to build the much-needed homes on land near its existing sawmill.


The proposal was discussed at a recent meeting of Argyll and Bute Council's planning committee in September, and although planning officers had recommended refusal due to the area's scenic quality and objections from a small section of the community, the council still indicated a desire approve the project.

Despite citing the lack of employment opportunities available in Cairndow, and a lack of houses, a final decision was deferred and won’t be made until the next committee in November.
