Plans for the final phase of Lochaber sawmill's redevelopment have been submitted.

Borders-based BSW Timber intends to move its Corpach sawmill business from a site it has occupied for 40 years to a former pulp mill nearby.

With its head office in Earlston, Berwickshire, BSW plans to invest £18m in redeveloping the former pulp mill in three phases.

The £18m is part of a five-year £50m programme of investment across all BSW's sites.

As well as several sites through the rest of the UK, the firm has mills at Boat of Garten, Petersmuir and Dalbeattie.

Once completed, the new sawmill in Corpach will provide jobs for 150 staff.

Corpach site manager Andy Rogers said in a recent statement that the location had "room for further potential expansion" in the future.

Lochaber Liberal Democrat MP Charles Kennedy has welcomed the investment in the mill.
